2010 River Ranch Rod Run
Usually held the last weekend in January, this is one of the shows that The Old Guys look forward to every year.

Hosted by Rich and Linda Martin of the Sunshine State Rodding News, and held at Westgate's River Ranch Resort (out in the middle of nowhere), the show offers lots to do when you're not looking at the well-over-300 cars that quickly fill the show field.

This show gives The Old Guys an opportunity to catch up with our friends that we only get to see once a year, and this year was no exception.

Sonny, Mikey, Cecil, Ft. Lauderdale Bill and I arrived Friday afternoon, Bob and Bobbi Petty got there in the early evening, and the show field was already filling up. We checked into our rooms, and began prepping my world famous Sloppy Joes, and Sonny's soon to be famous BBQ'ed beans, which we planned to have for lunch on Saturday.

This year, three of our rooms were up front and center of the show field, which was convenient, and also just a few steps from the Saloon, which was even more convenient.

By late afternoon, the aroma from Sonny's beans was more than we could handle, and we had to sample them using some Frito Scoops. In about an hour, Sonny's digital, mondo-sized crock pot, which was full (about ten pounds of beans) when we started, was now half-empty, and regretfully, we had to reserve the rest for Saturday's lunch.

Friday evening, we ended up in the Saloon (go figure!) with our west coast friends, and did our best to help support the economy.

Saturday morning, we were joined by Packard Bill, Phil and Nancy, Kevin and AJ, the gang from South East Rods & Customs, and with about 325 cars on the show field, we handed out WinterFest show flyers, and got a good look at all the cars.

If you happen to be one that attends a car show for those $10 awards, you can skip this one; there's just a couple specialty awards, and with no awards, this is our kinda show!

After our big Sloppy Joe and beans lunch, along with dessert from Nancy, we attended the door and raffle prize drawings...Packard Bill won a door prize...and then it was nap time, which was followed up by another trip to the Saloon. Very unusual...not much of a party going on in there!

First thing Sunday morning, we packed up, and headed for home. WinterFest is just three weeks away, and that'll be our next event.

River Ranch is highly recommended, and Rich and Linda, along with their friends, do a fabulous job of putting it together, and ensuring that the weekend flows smoothly. As we've done for years, we'll surely be back next year.

Photos are being organized, and will be posted in the album soon.
