It doesn't matter what time we say we're leaving the hotel, because we all seem to gravitate to our cars just before first light anyway.
I won't even bother to tell you what time we left, because it had nothing to do with either Florida OR local time! We made a stop in Carbon Hill (that's in Alabama), and while Packard Bill paid his respects up on the hill, the rest of us had egg and cheese biscuits at the Carbon Hill Cafe. Then we stopped at the local NAPA, and got a new O-ring for Cecil's leaking PS pump. The NAPA guy had to go through a couple thousand rings before he found the right one. It was a quick fix. We motored through the rest of Alabama, cut across Mississippi, and stopped for lunch at Interstate BBQ in Memphis, Tennessee (see the pic above). Interstate claims they're the #2 BBQ place in the country, but we've been to the alleged #1 in North Carolina, and it ain't half as good as Interstate! Good food is an understatement. It's so good that Sonny ordered a pound of baked beans as a side dish, and Packard Bill and Cecil got another order of ribs to go. After lunch, we traveled through the rest of Tennessee, then Arkansas, and finally landed in Arnold, Missouri...about 30 miles south of St. Louis. Our dinner plan is a Crave Case, and if you don't know what it is, ask anyone who has a love affair with White Castle's. Mileage so far...Sonny has logged more than 1500 miles already. The rest of us have to do some cyphering to figure out how far we've gone, and we'll do that tomorrow afternoon. Gas prices...until this afternoon, all regular fuel ,once we left Florida, has been about $2.35. Up here in Arnold, it's about $2.50. It'll be another early night for us. We're outa here at first light (Florida time, okay!), for the final travel day before the start of the Hot Rod Power Tour. |
