Woodward Dream Cruise
This was SUPPOSED to be an Old Guys trip, but a couple of us Old Guys, in fear of outrageous fuel prices, backed out.

Packard Bill, the only REAL trooper of the gang, decided he was still going, and here's his story:

Got back on Wednesday. Went a total of 3452 miles, spent $654.16 in gas, average was about $3.69 per gallon, with the hydogen, got the best mileage at about 23.46 MPG, with average for the whole trip being 19.1 MPG. Had Packard lag by the time I got back, but all in all a great trip.

On the way there, stoped at Smoky Pig (Bowling Green, KY), wanted ribs, but they were all out, settled for a pulled pork sandwich. (take it or leave it). Then on to the Packard Museum in Warren, Ohio. They loved the Packard and wanted me to come back at the time of the Packard show in July.

Made my way to Michagan for the Cruise, was great! Forty thousand show cars, over a million spectators, the biggest one day car event in the USA. Had a ball! Being from Michigan, visited with family and friends on Sunday. But all things come to an end and had to start back.

Made my way to South Bend, Indiana and stopped at the Studebaker National Museum. Three levels and about 60+ cars. Glad I stopped.

So now on my way home started to worry about the drive and the weather, as Tropical Storm Faye had me thinking about what was happend at home. Kept in touch with family to make sure I was not getting myself into a bad rain storm.

So decided to make my way to Mephis TN, to stop at Interstate Bar-B-Que and got to be good friends with Jim Neely! Had a pulled pork sandwich, which was great, so then decided to get a order of Ribs to go, for dinner and breakfest the next day! After a good time and a full belly, made my way to Carbon Hill, AL to say hi to dad. Not being a very flower person, l left him a few BBQ rib bones, knew he would love that. (RIP).

So figure it was the best time to skirt my way thru the stormy south. Headed for home and took wrong road out of Birmingham AL, (yes, even with the GPS! It did not know the way I wanted to go.) So for the better part of the day made my way to Tifton GA.

So Wednesday took the final leg home, opting not to stop at Hungry Harrys, which was very hard to do. Had little rain but some wind. And made it home with little incident.

A trip of a life time, would have been better with friends. So whats next? I think we have a few trips planned.

Destination Daytona Weekend
While Packard Bill enjoyed the comfortable days and cool nights outside Detroit at the Woodward Dream Cruise, the other Old Guys took in a local favorite, the monthly Destination Daytona Cruise In.

If you've never visited Destination Daytona, you've gotta do it! It's one of Bruce Rossmeyer's many Harley dealerships, but it's more than just a motorcycle store!

There's a couple restaurants, a couple bars, an outside food court, several shops, businesses, a concert pavillion, a hotel, condos, and more!

Cecil lives in Ormond. Sonny and I, knowing that the weekend might include a cocktail or two, opted to stay right at the Destination Daytona Hotel. We originally planned to meet at the Daytona Swap Meet first, but the plan changed when Sonny's clutch rod took a dump.

No problem...the fix, although temporary, was quick, and then it was lunch in a local hamburger joint...great burgers, and excellent fries.

Later that evening, Cecil led the pub crawl through some of the beach area lounges, and a quick stop at the hotel we're staying in when we re-visit in October, for the Dream Cruise.

We finished up Friday evening in true Old Guys tradition...the Saints and Sinners Pub just 87 steps from our hotel rooms! Sonny would have no problem findhing his room this time!

After a quick breakfast Saturday morning, Sonny and I visited the swap meet we missed on Friday. Cecil was unavailable. There was nothing at the swap meet we absolutely had to have, but I did find a couple neat Dremel attachments.

Satuday afternoon was the show, and even though it rained much of the day, the show field was filled to capacity. An hour before showtime, the rain stopped, the sun came out, the heat AND humidity turned up quite a bit, and that combination forced us into the air-conditioned lounge.

Swami and Nancy...we were celebrating her 50th birthday...drank buckets of Voodoo Juice, a quart bucket filled with five different rums, and some fruit punch to make it semi-drinkable! We think it's pretty potent, but you'll have to ask Nancy to be sure, and she wasn't sayin' much last night!

All New Look. Same Old Guys.
Our one-page Blog has been followed by many, especially when we're doing one of our road trips. But jamming everything into one page was making it almost impossible to read. So we've moved on up, as they say, to the big time...a full-blown website!

The upgrade includes a separate page for our BBQ ratings, a page about the Old Guys, and some more fun stuff, like the video at the bottom of the About Us page...Swami For President.

Keith is an Old Guy In Training...he's a good guy, surely old enough to be an Old Guy, but unfortunately, still gainfully employed, and the Old Guys think of w-o-r-k as just another one of them four-letter words!

Keep stoppin' back here...we're getting into the Old Guys travel season...Packard Bill is heading out to the Woordward Dream Cruise next week...and as we've always done, we'll keep you posted (with stories and photos) about what we're up to!
