| Savannah - Sunday |
Sunday was Girls Day...since we dragged them along on this trip, they got to decide the plan for the day.
Sunday morning, we headed out to Tybee Island, about 40 miles from the hotel. The weather was ideal for a day at the beach, but after taking a few pics, and wandering around the shops, it was nearly lunchtime, and food is the Old Guys number one priority!
We'd already been told that the best seafood could be found at the Crab Shack, so we headed west, and found this rustic, Jimmy Buffet-type outdoor restaurant, where NOTHING is offered fried...c'mon, I thought ALL seafood was fried!
Lunch was great, in spite of it being either steamed or boiled, and only a couple of the really brave had any room left for dessert.
The it was off to downtown Savannah, where we boarded a trolley, and took the Downtown and Riverfront tour. That took a couple hours, and now we're authorities on Savannah's history.
We were going to take the Haunted Building tour, but learned it was exactly the reverse of what we just did, and even worse, it didn't start until 9:30 PM, which is just a half-four before the Old Guys usually call it a night! So we passed on that, went back to the hotel, rested a bit, and then made dinner plans.
After much discussion, we decided to try Sticky Fingers, which has been rated the number one BBQ in Savannah for the past few years. It was good, but unfortunately, the Old Guys are BBQ authorities, and we've had much better in Little Rock and Memphis . In fact, it was a notch or two below the Smokey Pig in Bowling Green!
After dinner, it WAS time for the Old Guys to retire for the evening, and we did, resting up for the eight-plus-hour ride home on Monday.
The bottom line...there's plenty to do in Savannah, and it was a great car show. And that's a combination the Old Guys really appreciate! |
