Savannah - Sunday
Sunday was Girls Day...since we dragged them along on this trip, they got to decide the plan for the day.

Sunday morning, we headed out to Tybee Island, about 40 miles from the hotel. The weather was ideal for a day at the beach, but after taking a few pics, and wandering around the shops, it was nearly lunchtime, and food is the Old Guys number one priority!

We'd already been told that the best seafood could be found at the Crab Shack, so we headed west, and found this rustic, Jimmy Buffet-type outdoor restaurant, where NOTHING is offered fried...c'mon, I thought ALL seafood was fried!

Lunch was great, in spite of it being either steamed or boiled, and only a couple of the really brave had any room left for dessert.

The it was off to downtown Savannah, where we boarded a trolley, and took the Downtown and Riverfront tour. That took a couple hours, and now we're authorities on Savannah's history.

We were going to take the Haunted Building tour, but learned it was exactly the reverse of what we just did, and even worse, it didn't start until 9:30 PM, which is just a half-four before the Old Guys usually call it a night! So we passed on that, went back to the hotel, rested a bit, and then made dinner plans.

After much discussion, we decided to try Sticky Fingers, which has been rated the number one BBQ in Savannah for the past few years. It was good, but unfortunately, the Old Guys are BBQ authorities, and we've had much better in Little Rock and Memphis . In fact, it was a notch or two below the Smokey Pig in Bowling Green!

After dinner, it WAS time for the Old Guys to retire for the evening, and we did, resting up for the eight-plus-hour ride home on Monday.

The bottom line...there's plenty to do in Savannah, and it was a great car show. And that's a combination the Old Guys really appreciate!

Savannah - Saturday Show and More
About 8:30, we drove onto the show field. Old Guy "I know exactly where it is" Sonny, who was leading us there, drove right past it the first time.

We were pre-registered, so the actual registration process was quick. We got goody bags, which actually had some usable stuf in them, including T-shirts!

It was great seeing cars we'd never seen before, and we made lots of new friends, some of whom will be traveling south to River Ranch next year!

I was one of the first door prize winners, and my door prize was a four-foot workbench, with a pegboard back, and a soffit light...probably worth a couple hundred dollars!

I've got no where at home to put it, so I gave it to Packard Bill, and in return, I'd get whatever it was that he won. After a few more drawings, they pulled his number, and his door prize, nearly equal to what I won, was a JEGS hat and a bottle of Meguiar's Detailer...just what I needed!

We bought tickets for the $1000 raffle (didn't win), the Money Hat (didn't win), and even the MegaMillions lottery (didn't win that, either).

The awards were presented...I received the Long Distance award, and Packard Bill received the Under Construction award for his Packard. Obviously, they never read the "It IS Finished, *%#*#!" slogan on the back bumper!

Anyway, a great show, and highly recommended. But it was all downhill from there!

The girls came back from downtown, and we made dinner plans...BBQ, of course. But then we had to try and find the restaurant. We drove east, never saw it, called, and were told that "it's just a block from Circuit City." After driving several miles, we made a U-turn, thinking that we must have already passed it.

Wrong, and to make a long story short, we ended up waiting in line for a half-hour at Cracker Barrel, only to find out we made our U-turn just three blocks before the BBQ place! Oh well, tomorrow has got to be better!

Savannah - Friday Afternoon

When the Old Guys plan to attend an event, our timing is most important, since everyone is coming from a different part of the state. The trip to Savannah was no exception, and except for Sonny's decision to take the scenic route through northeast Jacksonville, we pretty much arrived at the Cracker Barrel at the same time!
After dinner, we headed straight for Savannah, and in a move not typical of the Old Guys , arrived at the hotel, and did nothing more than unload the cars.
Saturday AM, the Old Gals got up early, drove to downtown Savannah, and personally made lunch reservations (they can only be made in person) at Paula Deen's restaurant. While we waited, the Old Guys did a little car cleaning and maintenance.
Later, we all got together, checked out some of the shops along the river, had lunch, and then the girls felt the need to shop some more. The Old Guys, in their own cars, headed back to the hotel.
We talked about the Dixieland Cruisers Poker Run and Low Country Boil, and decided, after the monstrous lunch we enjoyed, there was no room for any more food!
So here we are. It's about 6:30 PM, and most of those attending the show have headed out for the poker run. We'll surely spend the evening in the parking lot, with the rest of those who've decided to stay behind.
And at 8:00 tomorrow morning, we'll be heading over to the show. We've already taken some great photos, and there will be many more taken tomorrow. Look for them to be posted in the album sometime early next week.
Sonny, Cecil, Packard Bill, and I, along with the significant others (for the first time in a long time, they're ALL with us!), say hi!
