Before we even talk about how he did it, we've gotta tell you that Billetproof out on a great show! There were more than 500 cars on the show field, and even though they said that the gates won't be open until 9:00 AM, we arrived at about 8:30, and there were already a couple hundred cars on display! This show isn't for everyone...there were year restrictions, and they don't like ANYTHING billet...cars WERE turned away! There were vendors, a live rockabilly band, and some pretty decent BBQ available for lunch. But the cars were the main attraction, and there will be dozens of photos in the album sometime next week. This was the debut of the Strall's Automotive Rat Rod, and Steve, Eric and Leroy brought it over from Englewood early this morning. There were a couple issues on the shakedown cruise from the hotel to Garlits...the alternator doesn't charge, and it heats up at idle, but nothing that can't be fixed in the next couple days. For those of you that don't know, Steve and Packard Bill bought the 1934 Chevy cab at the 2007 Turkey Run, and the built the frame around it. We had an opportunity to see the awards in advance, and they WERE creative! Hand built by members of the Poor Boys Car Club, and not a drop of billet anywhere on them! So when it came time to give out the awards, we were all pleased to see Steve receive the Jive Bomb award, which was for creative use of frame tubing, as well as excellent backyard engineering! Even though it sprinkled a couple times during the afternoon, this was still a great show, and we'll definitely be back next year! |
