Beach Blast XIII

One of the Old Guys' favorite car shows is the Beach Blast, which is hosted by Mike Kelly's Cruise News, and held at the oceanfront Holiday Inn.

There's a 200-vehicle pre-registration limit , and every year, that limit is quickly reached. Many participants, including us, make a weekend out of it.

The show is actually held on Sunday. Last year, we arrived mid-afternoon Friday, and the show field was about a quarter-full.

Yesterday, when we arrived, after spending more than an hour ridding our cars of Love Bugs, we found the show field about 85% full! Next year, it'll probably fill up sometime on Thursday!

The Old Guys, along with most of the other participants, immediately went into Cocktail Hour mode, and somehwere about 11:00 last night, as the crowd thinned out, we called it an evening.

Saturday: Still a day away from showtime, but you'd never know it. About noontime, fifty cars moved onto the Promenade, making room for fifty more in the parking lot. We managed to park our seven Cougars together in the same area, although not in a row.

About 1:30, the Old Guys hosted a cookout on the balcony of the Cabana Room, featuring Sloppy Joe's, and hot dogs on the grill. There was more than enough food, and we'll finish it for lunch tomorrow.

In the evening, it was back to the parking lot, where we were determined to be the last to leave, and at about 1:00 AM, we WERE the last group there, and we called it a night.

Tomorrow's the big show, and we need our rest!

Sunday: After a late start, we spent some time (actually, very little time) cleaning the cars, and suddenly it was lunchtime, which was a repeat of yesterday.

At 3:00, the door prizes were given out (of course, we got none), and the awards were presented (we got none of them, either). The just-short-of-$1000 50/50 drawing was held, and our numbers, as always, weren't even close.

Now, it's nap time for the Old Guys, because there's another party this evening! It'll be good to get back home, where we'll finally get some rest!
