The Old Guys Score A Trifecta!
If you're a subscriber, you already know about Legendary Ford magazine. But if you're not, and you're really into the Blue Oval, then either subscribe using the link above, or pick up a copy at any leading book store.

It's a first-class magazine...published six time a year, with well-written articles appearing on quality paper, which in turn, makes the photography really stand out!

And it's a pleasure not to have to deal with a Mustang (or a Mustang supplier) on every other page.

So here's the trifecta...Cecil's '68 Cougar appears in the My Ride portion of the issue, photographed by LFM's publisher, my '77 Wagon is in the Cougar's area, and Sonny's '66 Cyclone will be appearing in a future issue, but for now, it's the new 'poster child' on the subscription card that can be found inside each issue.

Our thanks to Dick, Colin and Dianne at Legendary Ford for making it all possible!

Just added to the Old Guys Photo Albums...some scans from the magazine, along with some photos of the actual LFM shoot in Ocala.

Cougar Prowl II

You can only do it in Hawaii (possibly) and Florida (surely)...see the sun rise and set on the water in the same day, and since it's not in the Old Guys' budget to travel to Hawaii, we're making the trip across Florida with the Sunshine State Cougar Club, of which we're all card-carrying members.

The plan is to meet in Ormond Beach Friday evening, take some photos on the beach Saturday at sunrise, then work our way across the state, ultimately ending up in Crystal River, where we'll take photos of our cars again as the sun sets, then spend the night.

Our CruiseMaster won't say much about the route, except we'll be visiting Don Garlits around lunchtime. That way, if he misses a stop (remember Fort Matanzas and the Big Orange a couple years ago), no one will be the wiser!

May 1, 2007...with no Internet access, we were unable to update daily, but here's what happened:
Friday evening - As we gathered at the beachfront hotel in Ormond Beach, Swami handed out goody bags. Among other items, there was an orange with 'BIG' written on it, and a travel brochure describing Ft. Matanzas. Both were probably there because those are the two stops we missed last time!
Julie did her best (don't ask what she did) to convince the boss of the beach patrol to let us come onto the sand BEFORE the sunrise, but it didn't work.
After some pizza, and way more cocktails than anyone needed, we finally called it a night somewhere about midnight.
Saturday morning - Well before daylight, we lined our cars up along the beach, and took photos as the sun began to rise. Then it was a group breakfast at the local IHOP.
After breakfast, we began our cruise, heading west, and staying on the two-laner's. We stopped at 'Cougar Park' (really) for a photo op, and eventually ended up at Don Garlits Museum, where we had some lunch, and then spent a couple hours touring. If you haven't been there, it's a MUST see!
Continuing west, we made our way to Crystal River and the Port Hotel and Marina, where Elvis Presley stayed in 1961, while filming a movie. Apparently, the hotel was so proud of Elvis' stay, that they haven't remodeled the rooms since!
While most attended a cruise in that evening, the Old Guys opted for a nap, and rejoined the group at sunset, where we again lined up our cars, and took more photos as the sun set.
Later than evening, it was dinner, and the party continued until sometime past midnight. Sunday morning, everyone headed for home.
The Swami and Julie did an excellent job of putting the trip together, and they're already at work, planning another Cougar Prowl for next year!

Prepping For The HRPT
One trip on the Hot Rod magazine Power Tour, and you're hooked! At least, that's what happened to a couple of us, back in 1998. Now we're veteran Long Haulers, and the four of us have traveled the Tour from start to finish for the past several years.

The 2007 Tour begins in Cleveland, Ohio, on June 2nd, and ends in Little Rock, Arkansas. In between, we'll be visiting Kalamazoo, Racine, Springfield, Evansville, and Memphis, attending a HUGE car show (3000+ vehicles) in each of those cities.

Beginning May 29th, we'll be updating from the road daily, in typical Old Guys humor, documenting our adventures, and hopefully, including a few photos. And you're always invited to add your two cent's worth!

And here's a possible historic first...Sonny and I will both be taking our 1977 Cougar station wagon's, and there's already talk of a grudge match on the quarter-mile at Memphis Motorsports Park.

Meet The Old Guys!
We're all from Florida, and except for Bill, we're retired, but we expect Bill will be joining us in retirement soon. Our passion is our old cars, and rather than letting them sit in a garage somewhere, we DRIVE them around the country.

I'm in south Florida, have a 1970 Cougar XR7 convertible, and a 1977 Cougar station wagon.

Packard (used to be Monte Carlo) Bill is from Florida's west coast, and has a 1949 Packard, along with his classic Monte Carlo.

Cecil is from central Florida, has a 1964-1/2 Mustang convertible, a 1968 Cougar, and a 1969 Cougar convertible.

Sonny lives in north Florida, has a 1966 Cyclone GT convertible, two 1977 Cougar wagon's (okay, so one is a parts car), and is in the process of finishing his classic Mercury pickup truck.
