The Route 66 Cruise
On May 18th, The Old Guys will be meeting in Marianna, Florida, to begin a three-plus week trip along Route 66.

We'll go north to Chicago, then follow Route 66 to Santa Monica, then return to Florida.

We've got lots of stops planned along the way, including Branson, the Hoover Dam, the Grand Canyon, and a visit to the Pomona Swap Meet.

We plan to travel as much of the 2400+ mile Route 66 as possible, and expect this trip to be more than 7000 miles.

For this trip, we've created a new, state-of-the-art blog. And since this blog could use some serious updating too, we'll get to work on it when we return from the trip.

You're invited to visit the Old Guys Route 66 Blog, and follow along with us. None of the Route 66 trip info will be posted here.

To view it, just click the Route 66 Cruise title above.

Packard Bill Weekend
Most of our weekend get-together's have been in central Florida. This time, it was off to the west coast, where we gathered in Englewood, and spent the weekend prepping for our upcoming Route 66 Cruise.

Packard Bill and Stevie have Strall's Automotive, so not only did we have access to a couple lifts, but also every tool known to man!

On Friday and Saturday, Sonny got some minor welding done, and then re-charged his A/C.

Cecil got new rear brakes, a tranny seal, replaced the tranny pan gasket and filter, a couple power steering hoses, and fixed a ground wire.

I planned on Stevie...Old Guys can't get upside-down under the dash any more...replacing my stop light switch, but brought along my new roller bearing clutch rod pivot assembly, just in case we had some extra time.

It turned out that in order to get the pedal assembly out, the steering column had to come out, too. Five hours later, it was done, but not without a good deal of cussing!

Packard Bill was in charge of finding us a hotel, and we ended up at a place that was straight out of the 50's. And although we complained about it after sleeping there Friday night, we praised it Saturday night!

Why? Because there's a cocktail lounge next door (Junior's), and we stopped in for a cold one...just one, of course...Saturday evening. Four hours later, it was nice to just have to walk a few hundred feet, and we were home!

Bottom line...we got everything fixed that needed to be fixed, at least for now. We should be good to go. But in the back of our mind is something we already know from experience...no matter how much you prep for a trip, you're still gonna have a problem or two along the way! Lets hope that this year, ours are little ones!
